7 Red Dress Run Essentials!

Red Dress Run is all about dressing up, having fun and donating to charity. The more you save on your outfit, the more you can donate to charity! You can easily go out and purchase a red dress, BUT just like white dresses during White Linen Night, cost effective red outfits are sometimes hard to come by. DIY to the rescue! Check out my 7 Red Dress Run Essentials with DIY tutorials for the perfect Red Dress Run Outfit.

1. DIY Mask

With all the festivals and events we have in New Orleans; every New Orleanian should know how to make a mask! This Red Dress Run project can be used for other Holidays like Halloween and Mardi Gras, just paint and embellish with different colors.

Check out how to make your own DIY mask at this LINK

2. DIY Lettered Tank top

Use fabric spray paint to create your own one-of-a-kind design. I found a simple red tank top at Old Navy that was on clearance for $1.50, can't get better than that!

3. Red Boa

Another New Orleans essential! I have not gone one Mardi Gras without catching 2 or 3 of these. A boa is a great way to create movement for your costume.
For a different look, tie the ends of your boa together to create a circle. Now it won't slip off!

4. DIY No-Sew Tutu

Instead of buying your next tutu, make your own!

Check out this LINK below for instructions on how you can make your own!

5. Long Socks

No tutu is complete without some long socks! Buy patterned socks to make your outfit more interesting!

6. Red Sneakers

These sneakers were $14 at Old Navy! If you don't want to buy new shoes, you can also use some red fabric paint on some old sneakers that you already own.

7. DIY Felt Tumbler Sleeve

This Red Dress Run project is more for the after party. I found these cute "I Heart My Dog" tumblers at Michael's for a dollar! Since I don't have a dog, I decided to make a felt sleeve to hide the wording.

DIY Red Dress Run Plastic Tumbler

This Red Dress Run project is more for the after party. I found these cute "I Heart My Dog" tumblers are Michael's for a dollar! Since I don't have a dog, I decided to make a felt sleeve to hide the wording.

What you will need:

  • Plastic tumbler
  • Printed felt
  • Sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue/gun

Wrap the tumbler with the felt, the print side should be facing in.

Use a sharpie to trace around the tumbler.

Cut out along the lines. The sleeve will be slightly curved.

Hot glue the felt together.

Love it!!!!! The felt sleeve can be removed to clean the tumbler.

DIY No-Sew Tutu

Why buy a tutu when you can make one?!

What you will need:

  • 6 yards of tulle from a 54" bolt
  • Elastic ribbon
  • Scissors
Wrap the elastic around your waist and knot the end. Now tie the elastic around the back of a chair.

Cut the tulle into strips and knot it onto the elastic band. Pull tulle tight and slide it to the side. Repeat tying and cutting tulle until you have a full tutu.

If you want to be lazy and save time, you can purchase tulle on a smaller roll, that way you won't have to cut into strips.

Enjoy!

DIY Red Dress Run Mask

Every New Orleanian should know how to make a mask! This Red Dress Run project can be used for other Holidays like Halloween and Mardi Gras.

What you will need:
  • Plastic mask
  • Red paint/brush
  • Faux flower/clip
  • Black puff paint
  • Hot glue/gun
Supplies

Paint mask with red paint and let dry. I painted mine with acrylic paint because that is what I had on hand. It would have taken a lot less time with spray paint.

After the mask is dry, use puff paint to embellish.

I find that decorating with dots looks pretty and is much easier than trying to draw straight lines.

Use a fan for quick dry time.

While your mask is drying, take the top off of a faux flower

Hot glue a clip on it.

Clip the flower to the side of the dry mask.

Enjoy!!

DIY Red Dress Run Tank Top

Red Dress Run is all about dressing up, having fun and donating to charity. The more you save on your outfit, the more you can donate to charity!
I found a simple red tank top at Old Navy that was on clearance for $1.50, can't get better than that! I already had all the other supplies from previous projects. So this project only costed $1.50!!
What you will need:

  • Tank top or T shirt
  • Fabric spray paint
  • Puff paint
  • Printer/paper
  • Exacto knife
  • Fabric pins
  • Cardboard

Start off by printing out RUN! on a blank sheet of paper

Use your exacto knife to cut out the letters

Stuff the tank top with card or a folder so that paint does not leak through and ruin the back of the top. I covered the folder with a plastic bag to protect it from the paint as well.

Pin the cut out paper to the tank top

Spray with fabric spray paint. You can even use regular spray paint if you have any laying around.

Use puff paint to make shadows on your letters

If you are in a hurry, place tank top in front of a fan to dry quickly.
ENJOY!
